President Ruto rewards Kenya's olympic champions, pledges continued support

President William Ruto has rewarded each gold medalist from the Paris Olympics with Ksh 3 million, recognizing their exceptional performances on the global stage. In addition, he announced a Ksh 200,000 reward for every Kenyan athlete who participated in the games.

The move underscores the government's commitment to motivating athletes and making sports a lucrative career path.

"Kenya’s pride in athletics does not end with the 11 medals we won in the Olympic Games," President Ruto stated. "Our potential remains immense and underexploited. We will scale up collaboration with stakeholders to elevate our profile as the Land of Champions."

The event at State Lodge in Eldoret City was graced by CS Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen,EGH alongside Principal Secretary for Sports Eng. Peter Tum, and featured prominent figures, including county governors from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet, as well as senior ministry officials and Team Kenya management.

The CS praised the athletes for their hard work, selflessness, and commitment, attributing Kenya's rise in the world of sports to their relentless efforts.

"As a Ministry, we are deeply committed to honouring these outstanding ambassadors of our nation," Murkomen said. "They have consistently upheld Kenya’s reputation as an athletics powerhouse."

Kenya's 2024 Paris Olympics campaign was a resounding success, earning 11 medals—4 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze—placing the country first in Africa, 17th globally, and second worldwide in track and field events, behind only the USA.

In his remarks, CS Murkomen expressed gratitude to President Ruto for his unwavering support, which enabled Team Kenya's thorough preparation for the Olympics. He assured that the president's directive to reward all participating athletes with Ksh 200,000 each would be implemented promptly.
