NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has declared the long-awaited elections for the National Youth Council across the country. Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Fikirini Jacobs, in a press briefing this morning, released the schedule for the elections following a Gazette Notice (No. 5586) by the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, dated April 17, 2026. The Ministry has set in motion preparations for the much-anticipated elections that were last held in 2012, fourteen years ago. Electing youth representatives will begin from the grassroots, starting with the Ward level on 5th July 2026, Constituency level on 16th July, and culminate in the National Youth Congress on 27th July 2026, which will elect regional representatives to the National Youth Council. The elections mark a defining moment for Kenya’s Youth in the articulation of youth voices in governance and national development. The National Youth Council is responsible for mobilising young people for national development, promoting youth participation in decision-making, advocating for their interests, and advising the government on matters affecting the youth. PS Fikirini said the Ministry has been engaging stakeholders and putting in place the necessary structures to ensure a free, fair, and inclusive process. He urged young people across the country to take part in the elections and seize the opportunity to shape the leadership that reflects their aspirations.
